This is a good question!
Generally most young drivers under 25 may take about 3 to 6 hours with an RMS qualified instructor to bring them up to a standard where they can, (with supervision), venture safely into medium to heavy traffic. Then they must complete their 120 hrs total hrs with min 20 hrs of night driving. If necessary you can do more night hours (min 20hrs) and less day hours. Students must be 17 years of age and undergo hazard perception test before sitting exam.
Some adults over 25 will take 8 to 14 hours of driving to get to a point where the instructor may assess that they are ready to undergo the RMS examination. Some adults are generally a little more anxious than younger students and generally approach new experiences with a little more trepidation than their younger counterparts. Overseas drivers who drive on the opposite side have to "acclimatise" to the left side and this takes time. At all times the assessment of an RMS qualified instructor should be taken into consideration before entering any traffic situations.
